You might know someone
They say that every person in the world knows someone who has or has died from cancer. Think about that for a second. I’m sure if you think about it, you can see the face of a person that you know, or knew, who was afflicted with some form of cancer. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer. It affects a smaller number of people than more prevalent forms of cancer such as breast or colon cancer, but it is a form of cancer nonetheless, which means that it is a serious condition. Mesothelioma is more narrow in it’s scope of affected people due to it’s cause. Since Mesothelioma is mainly caused by asbestos exposure it affect less people, mostly due to the fact that it’s cause is known, thus more preventable. You may not know someone with mesothelioma, but if you think about the person that you do know who has been affected by another form of cancer then you know how horrible the disease is. We can all do a little bit to help out. We can donate money, donate our time volunteering at a cancer charity, or we can even just visit our friends or family who are fighting cancer. There are plenty of resources, charities, and people out there who can use any help you are able to give. You should definitely research what organization you would like to go through or donate to to make sure that your time or money is going towards an organization that is going to use your charity wisely and in a responsible manner. Whatever you are able to do to help find a cure for mesothelioma, or any cancer, everyone can use some help in this battle.
Tips on Finding the Right Lawyer
Mesothelioma is a cancer that affects the lining of the chest cavity, heart, or stomach. This particular cancer is most often acquired through exposure to asbestos which is commonly the result of hazardous working conditions. Because mesothelioma is the outcome of working with asbestos, often unknowingly, there is compensation that can be paid out in the form of wrongful death law suits or while the patient is still living. There is often a statute of limitations on filing a law suit so it is important to begin the process as soon as possible in order to get the compensation deserved. The first and probably most important step in filing a mesothelioma law suit is finding an appropriate lawyer. Begin by making sure that you know the facts of the disease inside and out so you will be able to tell if the lawyer is knowledgeable about the disease as well. There is a better chance of winning a case if the lawyer is well read on the medical and emotional issues involved with mesothelioma. Do a thorough search of potential lawyers in your area and make sure you know the reputation and case history of the one you choose. Also, make sure that you know all aspects of the deal the lawyer is working with you. In most medical related lawsuits, the lawyer only makes money if he/she wins the case. Some lawyers will try to take advantage of an unknowing client. There are many groups and websites designated to mesothelioma resources that can help to point patients or loved ones in the right direction when deciding to file a lawsuit and choose a lawyer.
A Crying Shame
I had an uncle who died of lung cancer. Although it was not diagnosed as such, the cancer behaved similarly to mesothelioma. My uncle’s death was a terrible process that lasted too long as he tried to fight for survival. Unfortunately it was a fruitless fight that only caused pain and suffering for my uncle and our family. Having witnessed my family’s pain as we watched uncle’s decline, my heart goes out to the loved ones of mesothelioma sufferers. So many innocent people have been affected my mesothelioma. I have heard some people say that victims of lung cancer did it to themselves by smoking and to an extent, in some cases that may be true, but it is just not so for those with mesothelioma. The only thing that these people have done to get this form of cancer is work or live in place that exposed them to asbestos. Some people have worked their entire lives around asbestos in order to be able to support their families. I’m sure that if they had been told that asbestos were as dangerous as they are, they would have opted out of this work. Some families have had to spend their entire saving in order to support sufferers of mesothelioma. It kinda makes you wonder what the point of working so hard for money that will only be used up by the disease you got on the job. All anyone did to get mesothelioma was work hard or live in a home that was built using asbestos. It’s just a crying shame.
